The Final Lap!

As I enter into Module 3, it's time to update the blog! As acknowledged in my Mod 2 feedback, my blog last term started off strong and then it fizzled out a little. I find that once I start writing my essays, I tend to focus my time mostly on them and struggle to prioritise the blogs. But, again, we start as we mean to go on!

We're on week 2 of this term and there's been both positives and negatives.

Positives:

Reflecting back on this time last year in Module 1, I feel so much more confident with my work and ready for the term ahead. I've created a clear week by week schedule, of what work I'm aiming to complete; plus discussion calls and deadlines.

I was really pleased with my feedback from Module 2; there were areas of my work that proved stronger than I anticipated, so that has given me confidence in my work going forward.

I have started doing some interviews for my inquiry and I've honestly really enjoyed it. I've been surprised at some of the answers that were given; although I was aware not to create questions that would lead to specific answers I still thought some of the answers would be similar and yet so far I've had quite the opposite. I am definitely already learning that being a Dance Captain is a challenging balancing act when it comes to management styles.

Negatives:

I was meant to be embarking on my next contract this week but I recently was called and told it is being postponed because of Covid. This has been a bit of a struggle mentally to come to terms with as we are yet to be told a confirmed start date. Because of this, I will be unable to do my Dance Captain observations as planned, so I am currently deciding whether to find another research method or solely concentrate on my interviews. The silver lining is that I have more time to concentrate on my studies before I return to my busy schedule. Hopefully I should receive more information on the start date next week.

It has been tricky to find Dance Captain's with the time available and resources (WiFi) to conduct interviews so some of my initial recruits have had to drop out but slowly I am getting there!

One thing I am interested to see pan out, is how I articulate the analysis of this data. So far, I truly have found it interesting listening to the Dance Captain's answers but I know we have to do more than just regurgitate their data. So that is my challenge, later down the line.

  1. Hi Larissa,
Sorry to hear about your contract! That's really frustrating, but like you said hopefully the extra time will give you chance to rethink what you were planning to do in your observations.
I'm also receiving some interesting responses that I didn't necessarily expect- I wonder how these might alter our overall inquiries.
